Headed by Engr. Dr. Philip Omolaye, the Directorate was established in 2004 and upgraded in 2006 to drive the University’s ICT vision.

Key functions include:

  • Providing ICT infrastructure and support services
  • Ensuring network connectivity and data security
  • Automating academic and administrative processes
  • Promoting digital transformation in teaching, research, and governance

Directorate, Academic Planning

Directorate of Academic Planning

Headed by Engr. Prof. S. V. Irtwange., this directorate ensures that all academic programs comply with NUC standards.

The 4 Units of the Directorate of Academic Planning, headed by Deputy Directors of Academic Planning, are:

  • Academic programmes and Feedback
  • Academic Resources
  • Institutional Research, Statistics and Publication
  • Process Planning


Directorate, Linkages

Directorate of Linkages

Headed by Prof. N. M. Useh, FRSB, this directorate—created in January 2002— focuses on institutional partnerships.

Its mandate and achievements include:

  • Establishing and managing MOUs with national/international bodies
  • Facilitating staff and student exchanges, research collaborations, and funding opportunities
  • Sponsoring over 200 academic staff via TETFund/NEEDS for postgraduate training


Directorate, Consult

Directorate of UAM Consult (Consultancy Services)

Founded in 1997, UAM CONSULT is tasked with generating revenue through commercial projects, such as:

  • Conducting studies for clients (e.g. the World Bank)
  • Monitoring staffing and student ratios
  • Operating guest houses, meat and snack shops
  • Issuing recharge cards and other income-generating operations uam.edu.ng








Directorate, DIPPR

Directorate of Information, Protocol & Public Relations (DIPPR)

Transformed from a PRO office into a full directorate in 2017 and led by Mrs. Rosemary K. Waku, DIPPR handles:

  • University-wide communications and public image
  • Monitoring staffing and student ratios
  • Protocol logistics for key administrative officers
  • Media and information dissemination internally and externally








Financial Directorates, Bursary

Within the Bursary (financial hub), several directorates handle the University’s fiscal responsibilities:

  • Payroll & Pensions: Managing staff salaries, allowances, pensions
  • Stores: Overseeing procurement, inventory, and goods issuance
  • Assets & Insurance: Protecting institutional physical/intangible assets
  • Internally Generated Revenue (IGR): Driving income from services, consultancies, and commercial outlets
  • Main Accounts & Reports: Accounting, financial statements, compliance and audit support
  • Budget & Expenditure Control: Planning and monitoring budget alignment and variance analysis
  • Treasury & Archives: Custody of funds, banking operations, investment oversight, and financial record-keeping

Centre, CAHD

Centre for Counselling and Human Development

Headed by Professor Alache Ooga Amali, the Centre was established in 2011 to provide guidance, counselling, and support services that foster the holistic development of students and staff of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi.

Main activities include:

  • Orientation for fresh students and onboarding of newly recruited/promoted staff
  • Individual and group counselling on issues such as substance abuse, gambling, sexual harassment, and mental health
  • Vocational counselling to guide career planning and skill development
  • Educational counselling on change of course, probation, transfers, and academic challenges




Institute of Food Security

Institute of Food Security (IFS)

Headed by Professor Oto J. Okwu, the Institute of Food Security (IFS) was established as a semi-autonomous centre of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi to promote research and innovation in agriculture. It serves as a bridge between the University and society, addressing challenges of hunger, poverty, and nutrition.

Objectives of the Institute:

  • Advance Nigeria’s goal of achieving sustainable food security.
  • Collaborate nationally and internationally to address food security challenges.
  • Maintain an effective organizational structure to fulfill the Institute’s mission.
  • Provide practical training and academic programmes in agriculture and food security.



IPESS

Innovation in Procurement, Environmental and Sustainable Social Development (IPESS)

Headed by Professor Lami A. Nnamonu, the Innovation in Procurement, Environmental and Sustainable Social Development (IPESS) was established at the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (aka JoSTUM) to build capacity in procurement, environmental management, and social safeguards.

Core focus areas include:

  • Developing competencies in procurement, environmental management, and social safeguards
  • Providing professional training and certification through diverse academic tracks
  • Leveraging ICT and collaborations for hybrid learning and industry-based internships
  • Translating research into improved sector practices, policies, and sustainability safeguards
