Department of Crop and Environmental Protection is an integrated part of the College of Agronomy and groups approximately 36 academic and administrative staff members spread over six (6) research units – Entomology, Plant Pathology, Plant Nematology, Weed Science, Plant Virology and Environmental Management.
Our major drive is to provide high-quality teaching, research and community service in order to play a significant role in the advancement of the agricultural sciences as the basis for prosperity of the peoples of Nigeria and the African continent at large. In pursuit of our vision we are basically involved in the following streams of activities:
- Preparation of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Entomology, Plant Pathology, Plant Nematology, Weed Science, Plant Virology and Environmental Management for fulfilling careers in academia, industry or government.
- Enhancing development through research, new knowledge and techniques that are relevant to the production and management of economically important crops, and the management of pests problems which limit optimum crop performance on a sustainable basis.
- Communication of research findings through scholarly publications and educational programmes of value to stakeholders.
- Support the scientific community and serve the broader public through outreach activities such as problem-oriented research and extension.
We look forward to helping you realize your dreams in case you are interested in our research foci.
