VC's Welcome Message

On behalf of the staff and students of the University of Agriculture Makurdi, I feel delighted to welcome all our visitors, intending students and prospective partners or collaborators in promoting agricultural and educational services to the University’s website.

Indeed, no nation can survive without a framework for enhanced national food security based on self-reliance and self-sufficiency. The establishment of the University is therefore, a response to the challenge of historic responsibility to protect our national integrity through enhanced and sustained national food security programmes.

The various Colleges and Departments are structured in such a way that they liberalize access to new agricultural technologies through an integrated approach to research, training and extension. I am particularly happy that the quantum of knowledge we impart to our students include a heavy dose of practical skills so that when they graduate, they can become creators of wealth in the society through farming and agro-industrial activities.

Interestingly, the law establishing the University is liberal to promote effective collaboration between the university and various agricultural establishments as well as foreign bodies. Already these collaborative efforts have yielded results through international recognition; promoting researches of international interest and enhanced standards of excellence.

The research policy of the university has been formulated within the context of the mission and mandate of the University. The policy thrust emphasizes issues and mission-oriented research that is need-based, problem solving, farmer focused and farmer driven. It is the policy of the University to maintain a research system that is dynamic and ever responding to changing societal need and provide interactive environment that assure the provision of milieu for generating new scientific knowledge and technologies needed to increase agricultural product and value added products to meet the increasing needs in the society.

As you visit our website regularly, you are sure to find more information on our programmes, more areas of collaboration and innovations.
Thank you.
